Miniatures -- also known as miniature figures or just minis -- are small figurines cast in either plastic or metal, commonly used in role playing games and tabletop wargames. Early versions were made of lead-based white metal, but due to largely unfounded fears about the danger of lead poisoning, the ones currently manufactured are very often made of lead-free pewter. Some manufacturers offer plastic (hard styrene) or resin miniatures.

Often these miniatures are painted as a hobby. Fantasy and role playing conventions will sometimes feature competitions on miniature painting.
