- Emperor Caesar Augustus summons Tiberius to Rome, and names him his heir and future emperor.
- Tiberius also adopts Germanicus as his own heir.
- Sextus Aelius Catus becomes consul.
- The Lex Aelia Sentia regulates the manumission of slaves.
