The Discworld series by Terry Pratchett is the most signicant work in comic fantasy in recent decades and includes a cast of several hundred characters.
Some of the best-known inhabitants of the Discworld include:
- Unseen University principal seat of magical learning on the Disc.
- Mustrum Ridcully, or Ridcully the Brown (Wizard, current Arch-Chancellor of Unseen University)
- Galder Weatherwax (304th Chancellor of UU)
- The Librarian (By happy accident, an Orangutan. Definitely NOT a monkey)
- Rincewind the Wizzard (sic); after extensive (involuntary) tours of the far regions of the Disc, he is now the Lecturer in Cruel and Unusual Geography
- Ponder Stibbons, formerly a postgraduate student in the High Energy Magic building, now the Head of Inadvisably Applied Magic.

- HEX, the most powerful (and possibly only) computing machine on the Disc
