Abe's Oddysee: New 'n' Tasty is an upcoming video game remake by Oddworld Inhabitants and Just Add Water.
Development
A new Oddworld game was confirmed by Maxis co-founder Jeff Braun in 2008.[1] Braun said of the team, "They're such a talented group of people and I really trust their ability to create compelling content." He went on to say that the upcoming game will have a cinematic quality on a one-to-one scale with CGI-based films.[2] He also noted, however, that a slow production schedule could make it years before the game is released.[3]
In July 2010, Just Add Water announced that it is working on a new Oddworld title by releasing the following statement: "While we cannot go into specifics right now, we can tell you that over the coming weeks and months we will be announcing these exciting projects starring all of your favorite Oddworld characters." The team went on to say, "It’s almost symbiotic in that when something moves forward on any of the projects we just start chatting about new items, or what if we do this. We’re all extremely excited to breathe life into the Oddworld universe and indeed to let it breathe life into us."[4]
On June 5, 2012, Oddworld Inhabitants announced that Abe's Oddysee will be rebooted into a completely new game with a public showing later in 2012 and a planned released during the Summer of 2013.[5] They clarified the new game will still be based on the original PlayStation title in 2D with 3D graphics.[6]
It has been announced that HD remakes of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee (as well as possibly Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus), Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath have been planned for PlayStation 3, PSVita and PC release. On September 30, 2012, Just Add Water unveiled Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee: New 'n' Tasty which has previously been referred to as Abe HD or Abe's Oddysee HD. Pre-alpha footage has so far shown some early areas of Rupture Farms. Whilst many areas were similar to those of Abe's Oddysee, some new areas were featured, for instance Abe at one point, had to crawl through an air ventilation shaft. The game is expected to be released in 2013.[7]
