Canard Pars was a member of the Earth Alliance's Eurasian Federation and pilot of the CAT1-X1/3 Hyperion Unit 1 until the end of the war in September C.E. 71. He was a failed prototype of the same "Ultimate Coordinator" project that produced Kira Yamato, and the only one who had survived. It is possible that Canard and Kira are actually brothers, but this has not been proven yet. Although he is a failed Ultimate Coordinator, his abilities are still comparable to regular Coordinators or even higher.

Background

Canard was found by a group of scientists and brought to a research facility, where the scientists tried to find information on his abilities by torturing him and making other cruel tests. They often used the word "failure", leaving behind multiple emotional scars in Canard's soul. This only fueled his anger and hatred.

When Canard was young he had escaped from the research facility once. During his escape, he met a mysterious man with black hair, and this man told him about the existence of Kira Yamato. He also told Canard about the research facility up in the Mendel space colony and how he is a failure. In Cosmic Era 73 it is revealed that the mysterious man was none other than PLANT Supreme Council Chairman Gilbert Durandal.

However from words of Artemis Commander, Admiral Gerard Garcia, it is actually hinted that Canard was found by members of the Eurasian Federation which then made him a special operative and saving his life on this way.

Soon after he became a special operative, Canard was given the duty of test piloting and field testing the prototype CAT1-X1/3 Hyperion Unit 1 for the Eurasian Federation. He was also given the special assignment of eliminating Kira Yamato, which he swore to do. It was during this testing that he first encountered the Junk Guild in space. It was during this time that he first encountered his future nemesis, Prayer Reverie, who test piloted the YMF-X000A Dreadnought. Canard decided that the Alliance was holding him back, and thus went AWOL. Garcia ordered "The Eagle of Artemis", Captain Balsam Arendo, to pilot the CAT1-X2/3 Hyperion Unit 2 and destroy the Unit 1. However, Canard destroyed Unit 2 in a surprise attack, and stole the beam submachinegun of Unit 2 for increased firepower and using the remains as a source of spare parts. Later on, when the final battles in the war were being fought in space, he infiltrated the Ptolemaeus Moon Base, and acquired the nuclear reactor and N-Jammer Canceler technology.

The final battle between Canard and Prayer came on September 27, C.E. 71, at the Second Battle of Jachin Due. Thanks to the new DRAGOON pods/tethrahedral energy shield system of the Dreadnought, and the new nuclear reactor and N-Jammer Canceler of the new "Super Hyperion", the two were evenly matched. But, it was Prayer's Newtype skills that won out in the end. Hyperion Unit 1 was severly damaged and was about to overload, but Prayer rescued Canard from the blast. Soon after, Prayer apparently died to unknown causes which deeply affected Canard. However, it is revealed that Prayer seems to be alive but Canard doesn't know this.

Shortly after the end of the Bloody Valentine War, Canard finally saw Kira Yamato at Reverend Malchio's orphanage. As Canard rushed towards an unaware Kira, finally being able to fulfill his goal of killing him, he suddenly stopped, looked into Kira's eyes, turned around and walked away, finally deciding to abandon his quest and move on with his life.

Gundam SEED Destiny Astray

After the incident which apparently killed Prayer, Canard defected to the Junk Guild, and assisted Lowe Guele in the construction of the rebuilt YMF-X000A/H Dreadnought H, by using elements of the Hyperion. He used his new suit to protect GENESIS Alpha when Lowe plans to use it to get to Mars and fights against several ZAFT mobile suits.

By C.E. 73, he had served a short stint in both the Junk Guild and Serpent Tail, but had left both factions to create his own mercenary group.

Canard Pars was voiced by Souichiro Hoshi in the video game "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny: Generation of CE", which is fitting since both of Hoshi's roles, the other being Kira Yamato, are the only surviving products of the Ultimate Coordinator project.
