WMCA (AM)

WMCA, 570 AM in New York, was the city's top-rated popular music radio station between 1963-1967. This era of WMCA's programming was based on its on-air personalities, who were collectively known as the WMCA "Good Guys." The station also has the distinction of playing the first Beatle record on New York radio, in late December, 1963, when the late Jack Spector aired "I Want To Hold Your Hand." WMCA was keen on playing new product, and breaking new hits, and consequently, was the radio station that introduced Beatlemania, and the "British Invasion" music movement to the largest city in the U.S. In 1968, WMCA started experimenting with talk programming, and adopted a full-time talk radio format in 1970. More recently, WMCA has been doing a religious format, as "New York's Christian Radio."
