Petr Baron (Russian: Петр Барон, born 28 November 1980, in Moscow) is a Ukrainian financier, banker, businessman, one of the key top-executives in history of VAB Bank.

Education

1994-1999 - Taunton School, UK. Received an academic qualification of GCSE, A-levels. Deputy head of house, School colours.

1999-2002 - City University (Cass Business School), UK. Graduated with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Investment and Financial Risk Management, diploma with distinction.

Career

Petr Baron has a huge professional experience in financial sector. His career has started in Moscow in 2001 as a real estate consultant in “Cushman & Wakefield Stiles & Riabokobylko”, and within next 6 years he became the CEO and Chairman of VAB Group (Kiev, Ukraine).

Before his assignment the CEO and Chairman of VAB Group in 2007, he worked as an Advisor to the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Banking Group OVK in Moscow, Russia (2002-2003); Member of the Supervisory Board of Inkakhran, Moscow, Russia (2002-2003); Member of the Supervisory Board of International Private Bank, Macedonia (2002-2004); Investment Consultant (Eastern Europe) of Countryside Group Investments Ltd., Essex, Great Britain (2003-2005); Investment Director of John Galt Investments (TVR Motors), Great Britain (2005-2006); Member of the Supervisory Board (2003-2008) and First Vice-President (2006-2007) of VABank, Kiev, Ukraine.

Starting from April 2007 until April 2008 Peter held a position of CEO and Chairman of VAB Group (Kiev, Ukraine) which united 9 financial companies in banking, risk insurance, reinsurance, life insurance, pension, leasing, asset management and brokerage services.

From June 2008 until November 2011 Peter managed VAB Bank as a CEO and Chairman of the Management Board. VAB Bank (member of VAB Group) is one of the largest Ukrainian retail & commercial bank.

One of the main achievements of Petr Baron is re-branding of VABank to VAB Bank. He recruited an international management team to execute the transition. ALM functions and procedures adopted international standards in co-operation with IFC and introduced high standards of corporate governance and transparency. VAB was ranked the most transparent bank in Ukraine three years in a row (by S&P in 2009, 2010, by Credit rating in 2011). Conservative liquidity management was at the core of bank's business. VAB never delayed clients' payments throughout the 2008 financial crisis.

Petr successfully launched MAXI Card program - the first coalition multi-branded loyalty program in Ukraine that runs on Visa payment system with total number of cards reaching 200,000 in 2012. MAXI comprises up to 55 major nationwide mass merchants, such as: TNK BP, Turtess, INGO Ukraine, MTS, Avis, Foxtrot, Nike, Esprit, Yakitoriya, Shokoladnitsa and many others. Each owner of MAXI card gets the opportunity to receive discounts and earn bonuses every time while buying goods and services at MAXI merchants’ outlets. Collected bonuses are spent just like cash throughout the MAXI network.

Petr Baron is a corporate spokesperson and expert, having given around 39 TV & press interviews, over 200 comments on corporate and banking industry issues, participant of TV talk shows on banking and economy, speaker of numerous professional conferences.
