Nayobe Catalina Gomez was born in 1978 in Brooklyn, New York to Black Cuban immigrants. In the early part of 1985 Nayobe became the first Latin American to record a Freestyle song called "Please Don't Go" which was produced by Andy Panda. Some music critics incorrectly declare her record the first song of the genre, given the fact that Let the Music Play by Shannon (singer)|Shannon was actually the first.
