Your welcome message

Thanks for adding your welcome to the list of welcome templates. However, the {{PAGENAME}} variable, which you are using, can produce unwanted results. First, the welcomed user will see the {{PAGENAME}} code if he clicks "edit." And second, if the welcome is archived, the {{PAGENAME}} variable won't make sense, since it will change to reflect the name of the archived page.

For these reasons, you may wish to consider subst:ing the PAGENAME. You can't write {{subst:PAGENAME}} in your template, since that would evaluate the {{PAGENAME}} variable on your welcome message itself. Instead, you can include a {{{nocode}}} variable preceding {{PAGENAME}}, and then run the template with nocode=subst:. For example, running a template containing {{{{{nocode|}}}PAGENAME}} as {{subst:<template name>|nocode=subst:}} produces {{subst:PAGENAME}}, which then evaluates on the user talk page, making a static copy. See {{subst:User:Iamthejabberwock/Welcome}} or {{subst:User:GeorgeMoney/templates/welcome3}} for examples.

If you want to make this change to your templates but are confused by this complicated explanation (I was too the first time I heard it), I'd be happy to do it; just contact me at my talk page.

Thanks, TheJabberwʘck 02:46, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I actually use a Firefox extension to welcome users, so the {{PAGENAME}} variable isn't an issue there. Thanks for notifying me though; now that the welcome message has been added to the list, {{{{{nocode|}}}PAGENAME}} would definitely be more appropriate. Regards, Sango123 (e) 03:03, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I found a better way to do the subst:thing, thanks to User:GeorgeMoney. Caution: you have to subst: or else it won't work. Your welcome is protected, so I can't make the change for you, but what you do is use <includeonly>SUBST:</includeonly> instead of {{{nocode}}}. It's much simpler and easier to understand. A Request

. If you could just take a millisecond to stop by, I'd really be grateful. You've been a huge help since the first few moments of my WikiLife, so I'd really appreciate your opinion and everything. I also want to stress that I'm not asking for you to vote support; if you vote oppose, I will be equally thankful. I'd just like to hear your imput and get as much constructive criticism out of this experience as I possibly can. Thanks for reading this and considering my request! :) _-M o P-_ 01:30, 2 May 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Hmm, sneaky sneaky... my MSN disregarded my turning off it's popup blocker and still put your email in the junk mail section. Oh well, thanks for the input! And if you were to become an admin... again... I'd support. :D _-M o P-_ 01:37, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. and the co-operation idea for Trading Spaces in Esperanza is brilliant, I'd love to help you! I'd like to learn some new templates and all too. :) _-M o P-_ 01:40, 2 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

First, I want to thank you for reverting the vandalism done to the George Washington article. Enlight of this I would like you to comment on the discuss I start on the talk pages entitle Fully Protected. Please read my statements carefully and voice your opinon. Thanks for everything!--(Steve 14:28, 2 May 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Esalen Institute article

Hello, Sango123. CKA3KA, here. I have been considering nominating the Esalen Institute article for deletion, but since I've never done such a thing, I'd very much appreciate your input. Could you do me the favor of looking at my comments on that article's talk page and weighing in with your opinion on the issue? —CKA3KA (Skazka) 21:37, 3 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the link to the original, I love these animals. We tend to have a good few around where I live, in fact I had one crossed in front of me when I was driving to the gym the other day. Although OTOH we are a sheep farming area, so they do their fair share of damage as well; but thats the cycle of life.ALR 21:16, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the revert back

It initially appeared information was being removed, not added to, [Manchukuo]...hence the reversion. Thx for correcting this. NetK 16:45, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

J. Arthur Younger (Jesse Arthur Younger) Article

Hello,

Thank you for redirecting the Walter H. Capps Article. I had discovered it while editing the other one (Walter Capps). I still have a great deal to learn about the mechanics of Wikipedia so with the help of User:David Kernow I added the delete request.

There is another Article I'd like to call to someone's attention: It is now titled 'J. Arthur Younger'. He is a US Representative from California. The way his name is listed makes it nearly impossible to search on. His full name is 'Jesse Arthur Younger'. Is there something that can be done to correct this?

As I said I'm still on a bit of a learning curve with Wiki.

Thanks,

Michael David 16:51, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sango

Hi there. Sorry for me vandalising a page. I'm new to Wikipedia and I've learnt why it's bad. Really sorry. From Sandeep. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.155.148.65 (talk) 16:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User Page

Hi its' me again. I like your user page. I heard from other people that you helped them improve their user page. Can you help me too? Anonymous_anonymousHave a Nice Day 18:43, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I was thinking of sorting my user page out. I think that its all over the place. Something simple. Thanks again. Anonymous_anonymousHave a Nice Day 20:58, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Order of Categories

Hello again,

Please, one more thing. Is there a specific order that should be followed when listing the Categories at the bottom of a given Article? I've been listing them alphanumerically starting with the Birth year, and then alphabetically. I've noticed recently that a Wiki User is going through and reediting the order, putting the Birth & Year dates last. What's proper?

Thanks again,

Michael David 19:36, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

How did you find the exact HTML color #CF5440 for Red Links? --GeorgeMoneyTalk Contribs 07:15, 8 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sango123, We had previously talked in regards to editor User:216.56.4.194 and his constant vandalism since last year. You have recently placed a block of one week on his account. With his block expired, the editor has returned, and has immediately begun placing racial slurs on pages, see this edit for an example. Can something more permanent be done about this? The editor's user contributions are constant vandalism, and despite a week long block, he continues to ignore the community and attempt considerable damage. Thank you for reviewing this. --Ataricodfish 18:38, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is everything ok, dear Sango?

Sweet Sango, considering your normally amazing levels of activity, I'm somewhat concerned that you've only edited twice in the last three days. Is everything OK, hun? You know you can contact me anytime you wish in case you need. I hope it's just something temporary. We (umm... I) miss you. Hugs, Phaedriel tell me - 22:20, 11 May 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Long time no see

Hi there, Sango. Wow, it's been a long time since we last talked. I trust everything is well with you? Incidentally, in my request for an account at the Wikimedia Foundation website (here), I put your name as a reference, in case they need convincing that I'm not crazy or something. I hope you don't mind :). Cheers, Redux 02:49, 13 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sango, nice to hear from you again! Thank you so much for your endorsement over at Meta :) I really appreciate your kind words. I hope we'll be seeing each other around more often — if the "wikibreaks" of life will allow it.. Thanks so much again! Cheers, Redux 21:31, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User page renovation

I don't know how busy you are, but I decided to go ahead and ask anyways. I have already applied for it on the Esperanza projects page, but I would be honored if you renovated my user page. Its current state is just a hodge-podge of things I have added as I needed them over time. One of those cool user page templates would be nifty. I appreciate it. — ßottesiηi (talk) 20:52, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll leave the details to you, but I'm a fan of nice greens and blues. — ßottesiηi (talk) 01:07, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the great work so far. — ßottesiηi (talk) 22:19, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yeah, think you could make the subpage box one of those drop-down boxes? Thanks. — ßottesiηi (talk) 22:24, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm just curious about this: I've noticed before that the hide/show boxes are always set to "hide" as default when the page loads, yet they are already hidden. It doesn't bother me at all (except for that you have to click it twice to show the contents), but I was wondering what causes this. Thought I'd ask you because you're the formatting guru. — ßottesiηi (talk) 00:29, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that's wierd. It doesn't do it anymore. — ßottesiηi (talk) 19:51, 21 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects

Hello there Sango, I was wondering if I could steal some of your wisdom; am I allowed to create a user page redirect to myself? As my current signature (Mopper) may confuse newcomers. However, I checked the logs and there is already a User:Mopper, albeit with no contribs. Should I go ahead and do it or just change my signature? Thanks! Mopper Speak! 22:33, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, nobody as of yet, but a new user may mistake me for the "fake" one :P. I don't think I'll request for the user to be usurped, as changing my signature is much easier. Thanks again, Mopper Speak! 22:50, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done! :) Master of Puppets Your will is mine. 22:52, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Logical Coding Language AfD

Thanks for deleting Logical Coding Language, but I nominated Logical Cascading Language, a copy of the deleted article, along with it...if there's not some reason why you decided to delete one but not the other, could you delete that as well? Nick8325 18:50, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
