Bill Murray (born September 21, 1950) is an American comedian, producer, director and actor from Wilmette, Illinois.

Murray is best known for being a cast member of and a writer for NBC's Saturday Night Live television series from 1977 to 1980.

Murray also has a long list of television and film appearances including The Rutles in 1978 (as "Bill Murray the K."), Meatballs in 1979, Caddyshack in 1980, Ghost Busters (with Dan Aykroyd) in 1984, The Razor's Edge (which was also cowritten by Murray) in 1984, The Little Shop of Horrors in 1986, What About Bob? in 1991, Groundhog Day in 1993, Ed Wood in 1994, Osmosis Jones and The Royal Tenenbaums in both 2001.

Murray is the fifth of nine children. Three of Murray's siblings are also actors; John Murray, Joel Murray and Brian Doyle-Murray. All four Murray brothers appeared in the 1988 film Scrooged.
