Lumen Fidei (Template:Lang-en) is the first encyclical of Pope Francis. It is due to be presented on 5 July 2013 in the John Paul II Hall at 11am in Italian, English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese. It has been written by both Pope Benedict XVI and Pope Francis.
In late April, a spokesman for the Holy See Fr. Federico Lombardi said that the newly elected pope may publish his first encyclical in 2013. He also recalled that the previous Pope Benedict XVI had been working on an encyclical on faith (he initially announced its release, however, following his resignation of office, Benedict XVI can not publish the text, which is part of the teaching of the Catholic Church), so Francis made use of the materials and added his own insights and thoughts. On 13 June 2013 during a meeting with members of the Secretariat of the Synod of Bishops, the Pope explained the rapid pace of creation of the document, identifying it as "the encyclical for four hands," which refers to the commencement of work by his predecessor.
The term 'light of faith' is in the theology of the supernatural light which enables the intellect and the will of man to recognise God's revelation (the opposite of the natural light).
