Space: Above and Beyond
Space: Above and Beyond was a short-lived American science fiction television show, created and written by Glen Morgan and James Wong.
The show was based around the life and adventures of a group of United States Marines, flying starfighter missions from the spacecraft carrier USS Saratoga in the year 2063.
Humanity (in the form of a reformed United Nations) is at war with an alien species which attacked a human colony. They are called 'chigs', and little is known about them. The United Nations has no military of its own and navies such as the U.S. Navy and the British Royal Navy operate interstellar starships.
Other features of the scenario include a slave caste of humans named in vitros, who were artificially gestated (and born at the physical age of 18), and are derogatorily called 'tanks'. These 'in vitros' are a replacement for a previous group of robots (known as silicates) who rebelled.
The show lasted one season on Fox, before it was cancelled. The final episode ends in a major cliffhanger. It was shown in the United Kingdom on BBC2.
