Idi Amin (born ca. 1925) was the military ruler of Uganda from 1971 to 1979.

As commander-in-chief of the Ugandan army, Amin seized power with a coup, after which he established a dictatorial regime.

In 1978, Tanzanian forces and Ugandan guerillas drove out Amin, who fled to exile in Saudi Arabia.
