The X Multimedia System (XMMS) is a free multimedia player that runs on many Unix-like operating systems. It was first released under the name X11Amp, with a license that did not provide any access to the program's source code. Nowadays, it is released under the GNU General Public License.

XMMS currently support the following multimedia formats:

Audio CD, including CDDB lookup.
libmikmod supported formats
MPEG Layer 1,2 and 3 (Also known as MP3)
Ogg-Vorbis
Wav

It support Icecast and Shoutcast streaming.
