Space Conflict is an ambitious freeware space-simulation project, set in the late 28th century. The main feature will be the massive galaxy to travel in, with the option to join one of the many factions to achieve galactic domination, start up your own faction, work as a mercenary for many different factions, or trade and take in the sights of one of many systems. Release date TBA.
Universe
The Space Conflict universe is made up of 16 sectors, with each sector containing between 15 and 40 systems. Each sector can contain anywhere from 3 to 15 factions.
Sectors
The 16 sectors in the Space Conflict universe are letters from the Greek alphabet. The sector that contains Sol and the 'core' systems is named Alpha sector, due to its position as being the home of humanity and therefore the most important sector.
Major Factions
There are seven major factions in the Space Conflict universe all inhabiting a certain part of the galaxy, and all originating from the Sol System.
The United Federation of Sol
The UFS was founded in 2460 to safeguard Sol and the surrounding systems. The founding members were Sol, Barnards Star, Sirius, Alpha and Proxima Centauri, Tau Ceti, and Fomalhault. All of these systems had strong connections with Sol at the time, and decided that they should join forces to increase the well being of the surrounding regions. Ross 154 and Ross 128 were also offered to join by the Sol Government, however they refused due to their lack of funds to donate to the cause at the time. They did however agree to mutual treaties, and therefore came under the protection of the UFS. Since 2460 the UFS has 'swallowed up' neighbouring systems. Although this was done in a peaceful way, the systems had no choice but to join the UFS due to the overwhelming military power of the UFS, and no significant challenger at the time.

Minor Factions
There are hundreds of minor factions in the Space Conflict galaxy. Some of these are small forces who are currently not strong enough to stand up to a major faction. Some minor factions specialise in mercenary work, whilst others are pirates or freedom fighters. Other categories of factions include transportation factions, and terraforming factions.
Small Forces
These factions control no more than five systems at the start of Space Conflict. Small Forces applies to native factions controlling their home systems, and freedom fighters in control of a whole system.
Mercenaries
Mercenary factions normally control atleast one planet in a system, although some, such as the Pulsars have bases in systems across the galaxy. Most mercenary factions will perform jobs for any faction, provided the right price is payed. Most are allowed to openly advertise for new pilots on job boards, especially in times of inter-mercenary war.
Pirates
Pirate factions will normally control either a mining base, or an asteroid base. Both of these tend to be found far from the trade routes, giving the pirates an area of exclusion. Although some pirating factions can control whole systems, these are generally known as freedom fighters, except in certain cases.
Corporations
Corporate factions tend to be groups of traders, whether intra-system traders, or intra-galactic traders. However some corporate factions delve into other things, such as terraforming and jump node manufacturing.
