Dr. Joseph Pius O Wamukoya
Dr. Joseph Pius O Wamukoya is a Kenyan politician, and was, until December 2004 an Assistant Minister in the KANU government of Moi. He was born in the Western Province of Kenya on 22 August 1942. His early education was in Kenya, after which he qualified as a Veterinary doctor in the USA. On returning to Kenya, he worked as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, a position which he left to join the civil service in 1990 as the Director of Veterinary Services. He left this position in 1994 and returned to the University of Nairobi as a lecturer. In 1997 he joined politics and ran on a KANU ticket to be the Member of Parliament for Matungu Constituency in western Kenya’s Butere-Mumias district. He served as an assistant minister in various portfolios ranging from Agriculture to Tourism between 1998 and 2002. During this short period of time he is credited with initiating several projects that have largely benefited the lives of Matungu residents. In 2002 he lost his seat to David Were who contested on a NARC ticket. Mr. Wamukoya is still active in the politics of western Kenya. He defected to LDP in 2004 and has risen to the level of branch chairman for the Matungu branch. He is widely expected to contest the Matungu seat on an LDP ticket come 2007.
