Seleucus VI Epiphanes was the oldest son of Antiochus VIII Grypus and defeated his half-uncle Antiochus IX Cyzicenus in 96 B.C. as revenge for his father's death, but the score was evened only the next year by his son Antiochus X Eusebes, and Seleucus had to flee from Syria to Mopsuesta in Cilicia, where he set up a court but was soon killed by the inhabitants, who could by no means afford his extravagant lifestyle. Four of his brothers continued the devastating civil war against the other branch of the family and each others.
