The 1907 season was a very quiet one. Only five tropical storms formed, with none of them reaching hurricane strength. This feat was only accomplished one other year, in the 1914 season, but it is possible that 1914 had other storms.

Storms

Tropical Storm One

The first tropical storm formed on June 24 and hit Florida after moving through the Gulf of Mexico, making landfall as a 60 mph (97 km/h) storm. The storm dissipated over Maine on the 30th. This storm was the strongest storm of the season.

Tropical Storm Two

The second storm formed on September 18, 69 days after the first storm dissipated. Two peaked at 45 mph winds and made landfall near Gulfport, Mississippi on the 21st and dissipated over Virginia on September 23rd.

Tropical Storm Three

The third storm formed on September 27 in the Carribean Sea, peaked at 50 mph and hit the Florida Panhandle on the 29th. Three dissipated on the next day out at sea.

Tropical Storm Four

The fourth storm of the 1907 season formed on October 17, peaked at 50 mph winds and stayed out to sea. Four was declared extratropical on the 19th and dissipated the next day.

Tropical Storm Five

The fifth and final storm of the season formed in the Atlantic on November 6. On the 7th, Five made a curve and turned north to sea, dissipating on November 12, never making landfall.

Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) Ranking

ACE (104 kt2) – Storm
1 3.90 #5
2 3.77 #1
3 2.02 #4
4 1.97 #2
5 1.38 #3

The table on the right shows the ACE for each storm in the season. The ACE is, broadly speaking, a measure of the power of the hurricane multiplied by the length of time it existed for, so hurricanes that lasted a long time have higher ACEs.

The 1907 season was not very active in terms of ACE, with no storms reaching a value of more than 10 104 kt2. This was due to the fact that all of the storms in the season never reached hurricane status. The total ACE for the 1907 season was 13, the lowest of the decade.
