Shotokan Kata: Nijushiho (Twenty-four Steps)

The origin of Nijushiho is unknown, but it is presumed that it originates from one of the Dragon styles. It features elbow attacks in 5 directions, various fist attacks and a feint. Alternating explosive and calm sequences lend it a very distinctive rhythm. This alludes to the renewing and expending of energy in nature. Like all katas, Nijushiho harbours some veritable keys to a comprehension surpassing that required for a mere competitive application of the techniques.
