Alana Grace
Alana Grace is an American actress and singer-songwriter who is best known for her song Black Roses Red on the soundtrack of the movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Signed to Columbia Records, she will be releasing an album - Break the Silence - later in 2006.
Biography
Alana Grace was born in 1988, in Tarzana, California, but was educated mostly in Nashville TN, where she attended Harpeth Hall - a girls' school with a national clientèle and a strong performing arts program, counting Amy Grant and Reese Witherspoon among its alumnae.
A versatile performer, she is primarily a singer-songwriter, but has also studied dance and has acted in various television productions, including an NBC Movie of the Week and several TV specials, including a TNN Entertainment Special.
In 2002, at the age of 14, she was one of seven finalists at the second annual Nashville Grammy Showcase, hosted by the Nashville Chapter of the Recording Academy. [1]
Music
Complete versions of the following songs are available at MySpace, providing a preview of what will be on her album, Break the Silence:
Black Roses Red was a favorite [2] on the soundtrack for movie, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, with her voice on this song being compared to Andrea Corr. [3]
The Other Side has a haunting, elfin quality to it, and would not be out of place in Rivendell.
Domino is perhaps the most striking song, in the way it combines power with sweet tones.
While predictions are difficult, the above three songs have poetic and vocal qualities that may appeal to a wide range of audiences internationally - from teens to adults. However, the last song, Let's Go, is generic teen pop - well done, but not one that showcases her vocal strengths.
Recorded in late 2005 and scheduled for release later in 2006, the album is produced by Don Gilmore and John Fields. All of the songs are co-written by Alana Grace.
