Peugeot 206

The Peugeot 206 was launched in 1998 as replacement for the 205 which had been shelved the year before.
On its launch, the 206 was easily the best looking car in the supermini sector and it's still doing well today. It was initially sold with 1.1, 1.4 and 1.6 litre petrol engines as well as a 1.9 turbo diesel. But in 1999 a 2.0 GTI capable of 130mph was added to the range. The 206 was praised for its styling, handling and refinement. The build quality was a big step forward over previous models.
In 2001, two more versions of the 206 were launched - the 206 CC (Coupe Cabriolet) (with a folding steel roof) and the 206 SW (Sports Wagon) (a mini-MPV).
The Peugeot 206 has proved to be a sales success all over Europe. In 2002, it was the second best selling car in Britain - second only to the Ford Focus.
The marketing of the Peugeot 206 has also been greatly assisted by the considerable successes of the Peugeot rally team in the World Rally Championships in recent years.
