Bleach (ブリーチ) is a 13 volume manga series featured in Shonen Jump by Tite Kubo, author of Zombie Powder.

It follows the life of Ichigo Kurosaki (黒崎一護), a 15 year old high school student with the ability to see ghosts. A female Shinigami (God of Death) runs into him one day while searching for an evil spirit. During the confrontation with the spirit, she is forced to transfer her powers into Ichigo. Thusly the adventures of Ichigo and Rukia Kuchiki (朽木ルキア) begin, as together they are destined to search out Hollows (fallen spirits) and perform soul burials.

The story manly focuses on the relationships between the charactors in the story than the actual ocupation of the shinigami, although in latest episodes a deeper storyline begins. It is the same with most anime or manga. The main character has very stong emotions. This brings out the emotions of the readers, which is the reason we read them.

This manga has been picked up for translation into English by Viz Communications. A Bleach anime series is also currently in the works and will premiere on TV Tokyo on October 5th, 2004 at 6:30 pm. Studio Pierrot is doing the animation work.
