Hurricane Jeanne is the tenth named storm and the sixth hurricane of the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season. It has affected the United States Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, and has a high probability of affecting the Turks and Caicos Islands and the Bahamas.
Storm history
Tropical Depression Eleven formed from a tropical wave 70 miles (110 km) east-southeast of Guadeloupe in the evening of September 13, and was upgraded to Tropical Storm Jeanne the next day. It passed south of the U.S. Virgin Islands on September 15 and made landfall near Yabucoa, Puerto Rico later the same day. After crossing Puerto Rico it reached hurricane strength on September 16 near the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic.
Current status
At 5 pm AST on September 16 (2100 UTC) Tropical Storm Jeanne was located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic 50 miles (85 km) east-north east of Santo Domingo, or 210 miles (335 km) southeast of Grand Turk Island, moving west near 9 mph (13 km/h). It has sustained winds near 70 mph (110 km/h) and is expected to weaken a little more while the storm is close to Hispaniola before returning to hurricane strength.

A hurricane warning is in effect for the southeastern Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands
A tropical storm warning is in effect for the north & east coast of Hispaniola from Le Mole St Nicholas, Haiti to Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic
A hurricane watch is in effect for the central Bahamas.
