Break up
Not much is known as to why The Anniversary disbanded. They were dropped by Vagrant and a broke up a few months later. The final message posted on their website was:
- Hello friends,
- I regret to announce that THE ANNIVERSARY has officially broken up. We've made large strides in the music world, but we weren't prepared for all the changes in our lives. We'd like to thank everyone for their support at our shows and of course the purchasing of our merchandise.
- There is another band that has started up due to the downfall of The Anniversary. "Josh Berwanger & THE HOLY GHOSTS" features Josh, James, and Christian from The Anniversary. The band also features Casey from Hot Rod Circuit, T.K Webb a solo performer originally from Lawrence, KS but now residing in NY and Heide Gluck of the Pieces and Some girls. Please check the website for updates and pictures at www.theholyghosts.com.
- As for the other members... Justin is currently working on a solo release that is yet to be titled. Adrianne has joined up with the former members of another KC band "the Gadjits". They are currently working on a project yet to be named. Please check back at a later date for more information.
- Thanks again everyone for everything.
- Peace out,
- The Anniversary
Note: The Holy Ghosts changed their name to The Only Children.
This message was posted on the Vagrant Records website after they were dropped from the label:
- You will NEVER see this band
- 1) on tour with other Vagrant bands, The Get Up Kids or anyone else
- 2) being promoted on this Web site
Note: The Anniversary's music is still selling, in spite of Vagrant's decision.
A third unreleased, untitled album remains to be completed. The Anniversary's music is still played and enjoyed by many devoted fans, and is also being rediscovered. Recently a Lawrence, KS musician "covered" Her Majesty in an locally produced acoustic album. Someday there may be a reunion concert by the Anniversary, in spite of the breakup. The songs composed for the proposed third album, which was revolutionary, and in which DreamWorks was very interested, remains "out there," ready to make music history.
