Crystal Boys

Can you correct the grammar errors in the article Crystal Boys? I felt very awkward when writing that article, there must be many errors. see if it's understandable for English speakers. Many Thanks! --θαλαμηγός (talk) 03:48, Apr 18, 2004 (UTC)

Hi Jiang, perhaps you'll enjoy the joke at the bottom of my user page. Click on my name. Your friend, heidimo 03:31, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)

beef noodle soup

How did you come about to my article on beef noodle soup?

Soochow University

Also, how did you know so much about Soochow University? My father is a professor there teaching history.

Allegation article

Hi there, I saw you had the last word on Talk:Conservative views on American homelessness, what is your take on Oil for Food Allegations? Get-back-world-respect 03:34, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Hi there, thank you for your help to find a consensus in the vote for deletion of "oil for food allegations". The article was merged with oil for food, but there are serious problems now, mainly because two users have extreme disagreements and no one else helped. Bcorr now suggested a peace-plan, and I thought you might be willing to help again? By the way, if you are interested in a project about learning, especially vocabulary, please check my page and let me know what you think. Get-back-world-respect 19:06, 29 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I'll get over there in the next day or two... --Jiang 09:05, 30 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Free China Journal

Hey Jiang I added info to Free China Journal. Need help on Pin-Yin and correct english translation on Democratic Republic of Chinese Taiwan (it sounds awful the way I transliterated it). Wareware 03:34, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

splitting soochow university

We could have one page called "Soochow University of China" and another page called "Soochow University of Taiwan." Would that sound okay?

I know almost nothing about Suzhou University except for the fact that my father paid an exchange visit there. I know what the environment in Taipei's Soochow University is like because I used to live there, but I don't know the technical facts like the number of students, number of teachers, etc. I do have pictures of the annual 24-hour megamarathon that they host each year and I do have a picture of the front entrance of the university.

Why don't you start a Wikipedia club here in Berkeley? Nice way of meeting people on campus and having projects distributed among club members in person. Sometimes person to person contact is better than internet contact.

Allentchang 19:51, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

I'm currently working on the description of the Soochow University of Taiwan using the template found in Wikipedia:WikiProject Universities. Once we agree how to split Soochow University, I'll paste in the information.

Allentchang 22:32, 20 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Taiwan University

I think I'll also expand information about National Taiwan University. I have a question about the university logo, however. If I decide to copy the logo image off their website, what should I consider in terms of copyrights?

See my comments on the talk page. Also, I'm going out to lunch for about an hour, so don't take offense if I can't respond right away. If you want, just comment out the lines in the relevant articles in the mean time. :) --Dante Alighieri | Talk 20:49, Apr 22, 2004 (UTC)

--- Thanks for your improvement on the articles I wrote. ---Dictioner 07:39, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Were you born in Taiwan and did you move to the United States at an early age? Just wondering about your deep knowledge of Chinese stuff. Or are you like me? I was born in the US and moved to Taiwan when I was nine years old. I went to Dominican School and Taipei American School.

How would you like to see the expansion of information regarding the Chiang Kai-shiek memorial hall besides the obvious fact that it makes Mao's tomb look puny in comparison? I do have a huge collection of photos from the Lantern festival.

Why...

Why can't you put your response on User talk:SimonP?? 66.32.142.19 22:31, 24 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Leaders

Your change of splitting the two Chinas is *not* minor; please do not mark it as such in the future. Also, we probably need to have a discussion on that specific case, as 179 countries regard Taiwan as part of China. I'm starting that thread at Talk:Incumbents_by_year -- Jonel 01:00, 26 Apr 2004 (UTC)

WikiProject Leaders by year

Hey, I've started Wikipedia:WikiProject Leaders by year to discuss the issues we've previously been discussing at Talk:State leaders by year in a more structured framework that summarizes things we've agreed to already. Feel free to join in. john 06:17, 27 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Sogo and the Presidential Office

The original Sogo in Taiwan is located at 45 Chunghsiao East Road, Section 4, Zipcode: 106 The entire Ta-an (Da-an) district is assigned the zip code 106. Maybe we could include zip codes for the description of each district. If you plan to write an article on Ta-an, don't forget the Ta-an Forest Park!

References: http://www.post.gov.tw/post/internet/u_english/postal_e.jsp?ID=210105 http://www.sogo.com.tw/

I'm afraid I don't have a photo of the Presidential Office in Taipei.

Allentchang 16:18, 28 Apr 2004 (UTC)

Taiwan University is also located at Da-an

The zip code of the main campus of National Taiwan University is also 106; therefore it is also located in Ta-an district.

translation

hey, can u help paraphrase this sentense in Same-sex marriage in Australia:The Opposition leader Mark Latham, had initially suggested support on the Australian Labor Party entering government, but some, especially the Australian Greens, whom, along with the Australian Democrats, support same-sex marriage, have noted a negative change in Latham's views in more recent times, attributing the change to internal factional disputes with the right of the party. ? i can't get it! thanks! :) --θαλαμηγός (talk) 01:53, May 4, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the info, Jiang! I didn't know about redirs for deletion. I gave up on the idea in this case; no reason not to have a misspelling as a redir, really. MW page deleted.

A few seconds work on a minor subject

Could you add the characters to the first line of Central University for Nationalities please? You'll see why. It's my first article, so any positive criticisms would also be welcome. Matt 11:32, 7 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

No PhD for me

I don't plan to get a PhD in the near future. I've been interviewing several companies. Just came back from an interview with Mathworks, the maker of Matlab. I'm already offered an engineering job in Taiwan; I will need to get a work visa because I am a US citizen. If Mathworks welcomes me, then I get paid 56,000 per year before tax. If I accept the job in Taiwan, I only get paid 25,000 per year, although the Taiwanese income tax is between 10 to 15 percent. Mathworks seems to be an excellent place to work at even though it is in Boston (I prefer to work in California) Allentchang 02:07, 8 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Daan

Ok, wrote everything I know about Daan District, Taipei City. Don't know which district I will write about next. Maybe I'll talk about the "Little Manila" found in one of the districts. Have you ever paid a visit to Taipei City? I recall that you lived in the US all your life so far. I'm sitting at the outside portion of the Free Speech Movement Cafe. It is such a cold, windy night. The Main Stacks and Moffit is pretty crowded right now. I don't have any finals because my thesis is a type of final exam and I'm done with that a long time ago. Good luck on your finals . . . will you be taking EE40 or EECS100. I once TA-ed both courses. Allentchang 05:29, 10 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

My aim name is allentchang (surprise, surprise). Take EE40 if you plan to do something related to MEMS because EE40 has stuff on microfabrication. If not, consider taking EE100. EE100 is meant to cover all the main ideas of electrical engineering to a non-major; therefore it covers A LOT of material. EE40 has more depth in the topics that it covers since it is only a first of many courses for an EECS major. Allentchang 15:46, 10 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Operation Gothic Serpent redirect

Jiang can you do me a favor and delete Operation Gothic Serpent? It seems that an anonymous used created it and then another Wikipedian redirected it to the Battle of Mogadishu article. Just in case, Gothic Serpent was a prolongued operation, the battle was a single operation that ocurred on that specific day (with mission code Irene). Michael | Talk 00:05, May 11, 2004 (UTC)

good luck on your finals! writing this from moffit. btw, what are the perks for being an admin? I am watching this page. Goodralph 22:45, 15 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Good luck to you too! I'm really supposed to be studying right now (im in my room), but I cant help myself... This horrible site is just too addicting.
Adminship just brings about some extra functions (like deleting, protecting, etc.). It's all detailed at Wikipedia:Administrators. You should be able to get it once you reach 1000+ edits.--Jiang 22:53, 15 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
I know, it's so wonderful yet the opportunity cost is rather high--especially now. I used to be stunned at the idea of coming to Moffitt just to screw around (witness the folks who are on AIM right now) but I should look at myself.
I'm not sure if I'd want to be an admin--I could see myself getting more embroiled in the mechanics of wikipedia. I like to create.
Have you ever tried to put Wikipedia on your resume? Goodralph 22:58, 15 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, if you can restrain yourself from clearing items off vfd, then it should be no biggie. It's convenient when one has to move pages.
Nope, never thought of putting WP on my resume...is there a good reason to? --Jiang 01:31, 16 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure, but it can be such a big part of your life. It's like having another job...a volunteer job, but work nonetheless. That's what I was thinking. Goodralph 05:30, 16 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]

Triads

I think there is some degree of plagarism in Triad. For example, the wikiarticle cites US Hearings but there is no mention of what the article cites. It's possible that it was plagarized from this article which contains the same citations but later actually provides the works cited.

Since you're into editing and this is a Chinese article, I think it's down your alley! Goodralph 10:55, 1 Jun 2004 (UTC)
