Captains Courageous is a novel by Rudyard Kipling.

In 1937 Louis D. Lighton produced a movie based on the novel.

Spencer Tracy won the Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his work in this film. Also in the cast were Freddie Bartholomew, Lionel Barrymore, Melvyn Douglas, Mickey Rooney, and John Carradine.

The movie was also nominated for three other Oscars:

Best Picture - Louis D. Lighton, producer
Best Film Editing - Elmo Veron
Best Writing, Screenplay - Marc Connelly, John Lee Mahin and Dale Van Every
