Appearance
Military rule may mean several things in modern terms:
- A military occupation governing body, as after Nazi Germany's unconditional surrender following World war II, when it was placed under an Allied Control Council
- When a country or area is conquered and is placed under Belligerent occupation, also known as Military occupation as in:
- Occupation of Iraq, by the United States, United Kingdom and others- (2003 - )
- Occupation of Japan, by the United States (1945-1951)
- Occupation of Denmark by Germany (1940-1945)
- Occupation of Czechoslovakia
- Occupation of Lebanon by Syria (1975-present)
- Occupation of Baltic Republics by the Soviet Union 1940-1990
- When a country or region is placed under martial law
- When a country is invaded or placed under military law
- When a country is governed by a military dictatorship
- When a country or region is judged by a military tribunal
- When a military applies a Court-martial
- When specific laws are applied in a military context as in the Uniform Code of Military Justice
