Sweetbox is a German pop group that was formed in 1995 by producer GEO. To date Sweetbox have sold over 3,500,000 albums and 2,500,000 singles worldwide.

History

Former Members

In 1995 Sweetbox released their first published song, "Booyah Here We Go", which was performed by Kimberley Kearney. The song was played in clubs throughout Europe but didn’t break the charts. A year later Sweetbox released their second song “Shakalaka”, performed by Decia Bridges, which obtained the #1 position on the NYC Club Charts.

In 1997 Tina Harris became the front woman of the group and their first hit single, “Everthing’s Gonna Be Alright”, was released. The single received placement in ten different European Top Ten charts and Harris was awarded two Japanese Grammies for the song. Later that year a self-titled album was published in 47 different countries (in some regions the album was released as Everything’s Gonna Be Alright). However, in 1998 GEO and Harris felt burnt out as a team and the group split up.

Jade Villalon

A year later GEO reformed the group with Jade Villalon as the front woman and the music genre changed from club and dance to pop that occasionally sampled classical music. In 2001 Sweetbox's second album, Classified, was released in Europe and Asia. The album reached the gold status in Japan.

In 2002 they released their second album, Jade, in Asia. In Europe the single “Lighter Shade of Blue” also known as "Here On My Own", was released and took the #1 position on the charts for four consecutive weeks. In 2003 an unplugged version of the Jade album was released in Japan, titled Jade - Silver Edition.

In 2003 Jade recorded the songs "Real Emotion" and "1000 Words" for the English version of the video game Final Fantasy X-2 under the name “Jade from Sweetbox”. The songs were included on the "Final Fantasy X-2 International + Last Mission OST" as well as on the Japanese release of their fourth album, Adagio. Adagio was released in early 2004 in Asia and promotionally in Europe.

In late 2004 Sweetbox released two albums, After The Lights and 13 Chapters. Both albums were similar, but were released in different regions. At the beginning of 2005 Sweetbox released their first Greatest Hits album in Japan to celebrate their tenth year. A couple of months later the Best of Sweetbox was released in Europe, South Korea and Taiwan. Later that year the music magazine FONO crowned Sweetbox as the "No. 1 Cross-Border Artist” and two Sweetbox songs, “Addicted” and “Hate Without Frontiers”, turned to "World Without Frontiers" were featured in a Japanese commercial for the Subaru Legacy.

In late 2005 Sweetbox released a demo album, Raw Treasures Volume 1, which featured demos and unreleased songs from their previous and upcoming albums. In March, 2006, Sweetbox released their 10th album, Addicted.
