Antonios Nikopolidis was born in 13 January 1971. His first team was Anagennisi Artas that he left in 1989 to join Panathinaikos FC where he waited patiently to take his place in the team. After a really long time he made his debut in 1995 and since then he has gained a reputation as one the best goalkeepers in the Greek championship.

He made his debut in the Greece national football team on 18 August 1999 against El Salvador. In Uefa Euro 2004 he played in every game that Greece played and conceded 4 goals.

Nikopolidis changed teams in 2004 and went to Olympiakos CFP where he wears his shirt with his birthdate 71.
