Wikipedia:Article Collaboration and Improvement Drive

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Maurreen (talk | contribs) at 14:46, 15 July 2006 (Malta (4 votes, stays until July 22)). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

The Article Improvement Drive is a weekly collaboration to improve non-stub articles to featured article status. (For stub articles or topics with no articles, see Collaboration of the week.)

/History - For past winners.
/Removed - For removed nominations.
/Maintenance - AID upkeep.

Introduction

To vote or nominate you have to be a registered user with at least one contribution that is not a vote. Any and all articles may be nominated except:

If you wish to help with maintenance of Article Improvement Drive (updating vote counts and such), please see this page: /Maintenance.

User AID unfolds to

This user participated in the Article Creation and Improvement Drive.

How to nominate

Here is template for nominations:

ARTICLE (1 vote, stays until DATE ONE WEEK LATER)
:Nominated MONTH DAY, YEAR; needs at least 4 votes by DATE ONE WEEK LATER, YEAR

; Support:
# (sign with four tildes)

; Comments:
* (put your reason for nomination, sign again)

----
  1. Copy and paste the template to the bottom of the list of nominations on this page and fill it out. It is important to use UTC time; the current time and date now is 22:23, Saturday, June 7, 2025 (UTC).
  2. Under "comments" section put explanation of what work is needed.
  3. After submitting the new nomination, go to the nominated article and put AIDnomto do on the top of the article's talk page.

How to vote

Sign with "# ~~~~" on the end of the list of the article you want to vote for and then update the vote count in the subhead. Opposing votes are not counted; see approval voting. You can vote for as many articles as you like. If, after you vote, the vote count equals the "needs at least xx votes by", then add 4 to "needs at least xx votes" and add a week to date in vote count and "needs at least xx votes by" notice.

Example. You encounter this situation and decide to vote:

History of the world (23 votes, stays until February 7, 2006)
:Nominated December 8, 2005; needs at least 24 votes by February 7, 2006

First you put "# ~~~~" on the end of the list of people who voted for that article and then change the vote count and date in following manner:

History of the world (24 votes, stays until February 14, 2006)
:Nominated December 8, 2005; needs at least 28 votes by February 14, 2006

How the article is elected

Article with most votes on each Sunday in 00:00 GMT is elected as "The current Article Improvement Drive article". If two articles have same number of votes, the older nominee wins.

The next project article is to be selected on Sunday, July 16, 2006. 00:00 GMT (Template:DAYSTOSUNDAY)

How an article is removed from the list

Articles need four votes per week to stay on the list. If current date (June 7 2025) exceeds "stays until" date of particular article, that article entry is removed from this page and moved to page for removed nominations.

Nominations

  • This article has been nominated for a featured article twice, but has a lot of missing things preventing that. Especially the lack of citations. If we get lots of people working on it we can get it up to featured status, like the Russian version. See the talk page for suggestions for improvement.
  • Very good TV show, very good article. However, I do also feel that it is not quite up to the FA status it deserves. Kingfisherswift 20:28, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • I am a huge fan of this show i fully support this Kingpomba 11:25, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oh, come on. This is one of my favorite TV series, and I strongly oppose spending a whole on it at AID. There are too many other important works to improve; this thing is already close to FA-quality, whereas science fiction failed to even get GAd. Not to mention that the article for future itself is barely more than a stub! This article already gets more attention than a topic of its importance merits; an AID would just worsen our systemic bias, whereas we should be directing it to improve our coverage of the areas of Wikipedia that are truly lacking. -Silence 17:59, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thank you for articulating so clearly the reasons I have not voted for this... including the part about it being a favorite TV series. --D-Rock (commune with D-Rock) 18:17, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
    • Sometimes it's just as bad for an article to get too much of the wrong kind of attention than no attention at all. Futurama has been filled with fancruft, original research, speculation, and loads of non notable information. The article needs a complete rewrite, as has been discussed on the talk page. Jtrost (T | C | #) 11:47, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • But so does Paradise Lost. In fact, I'd say Paradise Lost is in even worse shape than Futurama, by an order of magnitude! I'm not saying that Futurama couldn't use some improvements, just that there are dozens (even hundreds) of other articles on fictional works that are both more important and in much worse shape, and get far too little attention for them to be likely to get any better in the future unless an organized and deliberate effort, like AID, is utilized. -Silence 14:26, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
      • I really don't see the point of bickering about this. If you want to see Paradise Lost and any other article of that nature on this list, then you have free will to add it and lobby for votes. Each article should be voted on its own merits. Bickering only keeps all of us from improving any of the article. --chemica 16:53, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

    • Not sure how much can be done. You could spin out the colonialism section into a separate article. I also considered the demographics section for a spin-out, but it's quite dense already. I wonder whether even trying to summarise the demographics of Africa in a few paragraphs is too ambitious, but, to be honest, I don't see a real problem with the current size of the article. What would make a real difference is putting the whole of the territories and regions section into a separate article. - Samsara (talkcontribs) 17:01, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The article on Astrid Lindgren's most famous creation of all time is in terrible need of improvement. Even the long list of translations that comprises 2/3 of the entire page needs to move to Wiktionary.

Even more disappointingly, there are no Wikipedia pages on any of the film adaptations (with the exception of The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking) or the individual books, and nothing on the '60s Swedish show or the '90s Nelvana series.

Maybe a template covering the world of Pippi would be a good asset as well. --Slgr@ndson (page - messages - contribs) 17:49, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • I just found this article basically empty. I added as much as I could borrowing from many other articles but it is still very lacking. I figure this article represents a major world-view, and would serve some good educational purposes for people who argue morality is impossible for atheists and agnostics alike. If these weren't a major part of the world's religions, I would say secular ethics apply to anyone, regardless of religion. Star Ghost 19:08, 13 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
