PP-19 Bizon
BIZON Submachine Gun
In 1993 engineers of IZMASH OJSCcreated a submachine gun called Bizon (Bison) that is derived from AK-74 and AK-100 series of assault rifles. Its main features are:
- high hit probability
- high rate of fire (650-700 rounds per minute)
- excellent controllability in a "full-auto" mode
- compact envelope (425 mm with buttstock folded and 660 mm with buttstock unfolded) that enables to hide the weapon under the clothes
- large capacity of magazine (up to 64 rounds)
- variable operational range of fire (100-150 m)
- option to mount various addons like silencer, flash hider, advanced optics, etc.
There are various Bizon derivatives - some of them use 9×18 ammo, but other models that use 9×17 mm,9×19 mm Parabellum and 7.62×25 mm ammo are also available.
Bizon features special helical magazine type that was probably copied from American Calico submachine gun, where that type of magazine was first used. This type of magazine provides such a large amount of rounds. The magazines on some models are equipped with rounds counter (i.e. it shows how much ammo is left).
Because gunsights, principles of operation and use odf the weapon are similar to those found on AK-74assault rifles, they are not hard to use since Kalashnikov assault riffles are widespread enough.
Bizon is primarily intended for Antiterrorist and Law Enforcement units that usually need fast and accurate fire at closer ranges.
Modes of operation
To select between firing modes, Bizon has three-position selector lever:
- Safe: Firing the weapon is not possible in this mode
- Single: Weapon fires single rounds. To fire another round the trigger needs to be released and squeezed again
- Full auto: Weapon fires the burst of rounds as long as the trigger is held down.
