Opened by Queen Victoria in May 1871, the Royal Albert Hall has played host to a multitude of different events throughout its history (see the timeline at www.royalalberthall.com) and has become known as the Nation's 'Village Hall'. As well as hosting the Proms every summer, the hall is used for rock concerts, conferences, opera and circus (see www.Cirque du Soleil.com).
