Akshay Kumar (born as Rajiv Hari Om Bhatia on September 9, 1967) is a popular Bollywood actor.
Career
Kumar worked as a Chef in Bangkok before starting work in films. He studied martial arts in Hong Kong and is sometimes referred to as the "Bruce Lee of India". His first Bollywood film was Saugandh in 1991.
His first big hits were mostly action films such as Mohra (1994), Elaan (1994) and the Khiladi series such as Khiladi (1992), Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994), Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995), Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996) and Mr and Mrs Khiladi (1997). He also had super success in romantic roles such as in Yeh Dilagi (1994), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) (in which he was asked to make a special appearance opposite Madhuri) ,Dhadkan (2000),Andaaz (2003),Aitraaz (2004) Bewafaa (2005). He then took on a very intense role of a son in father-son relationship movie Waqt (2005) due to this extraction of his versatility he decided to change his image from a Action Hero to one of the most versatile actor who is expert actor in all kind of genres of films whether it is Action, Romance, Drama or Comedy which is indeed a rarity in The World of Cinema.
He has done comedy roles in films such as Hera Pheri (2000), Awara Paagal Deewana (2002), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Garam Masala (2005) and Phir Hera Pheri which have been huge hits at the box office.
Waqt (2005),was his 100th movie.
His 2005 movies, Waqt: The Race Against Time, Dosti: Friends Forever and Garam Masala, all did extremely well at the box office and his status in the industry seems to be on the rise.
In 2006 he has released Mere Jeevan Saathi which was delayed for three years and finally released, Hum Ko Deewana Kar Gaye and Phir Hera Pheri.
He is also endorsing products like Thumbs up and has signed a contract recently with Madison. Kumar also tours in stage shows, doing singing and dancing. He led the Heat 2006 world tour which also had Saif Ali Khan, Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen and Celina Jaitley.
Personal life
He has been romantically linked to various of his female co-stars, among them are ex-Miss World Priyanka Chopra, Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty, Mamata Kulkarni, Pooja Bhatra and Rekha .After being engaged twice to Twinkle Khanna, the daughter of Bollywood actors Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia, he finally married her. Their first son, Araav Bhatia, was born on September 15 2002. His wife gave birth to a baby girl in 15 August 2003, named Arya Bhatia.
