"WBVC", cable 61, is The WB's Northern Michigan affiliate, seen on cable systems in the Traverse City-Cadillac-Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan television market. The WBVC callsign is fictional, as the station is a cable only station. The station is part of The WB 100+ Station Group. It is owned by Max Media of Traverse City LLC, which also owns sister stations WGTU channel 29 and WGTQ channel 8, aka "ABC 29&8", the market's local ABC affiliates. WBVC is located in the WGTU/WGTQ studios located on the second floor of an old bank building in downtown Traverse City.
With WBVC and WGTU/WGTQ being co-owned, all are low-budget television stations and WBVC has the infamous poor on-air quality that WGTU and WGTQ have suffered from over the years. WBVC offers The Daily Buzz newscast, shown weekdays 6-9 AM.
The CW
On January 24, 2006, the WB and UPN networks announced that they would merge. The newly combined network would be called The CW, the letters representing the first initial of its corporate parents CBS (the parent company of UPN) and the Warner Bros. unit of Time Warner. The merger will take effect on-air in September 2006.
On July 25, 2006, a new logo for WBVC with CW affiliation appeared on WGTU/WGTQ's website. This change hints to WBVC becoming part of the new network via The CW Plus, which is similar to The WB 100+. WGTU's website, however, has not posted any announcement about WBVC's future as a CW affiliate. UPN programming currently airs in a delayed arrangement on WFQX, a primary FOX affiliate. WFQX will be dropping the secondary affiliation with UPN, but it is unknown what will air in UPN's place if anything, although FOX's future sister network, My Network TV, might be picked up.
Before the logo change, WBVC was identified on-air as WB 61, Northern Michigan's WB. With CW affiliation, the branding will most likely become CW 61, Northern Michigan's CW. Also before the logo switch, WBVC's WB logo offered a link to The WB Pass, a website for some WB 100+ stations.
