The Dublin GAA Crest

The Dublin Senior Football Club Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Evening Herald Dublin Senior Football Club Championship) is an annual club competition between the top Dublin Clubs. The winners of the Dublin Championship qualify to represent their county in the Leinster Club Championship and in turn, go on to the All-Ireland Senior Football Club Championship. The current Dublin County Champions are Kilmacud Crokes who became champions with a win over Na Fianna. The final score was Kilmacud Crokes 1-14 Na Fianna 0-9. Kilmacud were also the 2004 Dublin Champions.

The Dublin senior football championship has received a dramatic revamp for 2006. A backdoor system has been introduced and the new system will be on a two-year trial.

The new system will only involve the senior football championship.

History

The first Dublin Football Championship took place in 1887, Erins Hope were the first Dublin Champions. St. Vincents have won the most titles (24) but have not won since 1984.

There were no champions in 1902 as there was no Dublin Football Championship that year.

Round 2

The most notable fixture in this round was the defeat of Kilmacud Crokes by Round Towers. This makes it more difficult for Kilmacud to retain their title, Kilmacud go straight to round 3 and Round Towers progress to Round 4. Also, St Vincents and St Oliver Plunketts were forced to a replay. The replay saw the return of Alan Brogan to Dublin football after a few months on the sidelines. Alan and his younger brother Bernard Brogan proved to be the difference between the sides although Plunketts goalkeeper Brendan Kennedy pulled some great saves against Dublin county forward Tomás Quinn. St Oliver Plunketts progress to the fourth round and St Vincents have a tie against Parnells in the third round.

The other teams to progress to the fourth round are Ballymun Kickhams, UCD, Raheny, St Judes, St Brigids A, Ballyboden St Endas.

Round 3

This draw was restricted by a rule that does not allow two clubs who have met earlier in the championship to meet again. Therefore, there was no chance of a repeat of a previous encounter. Round 3 consists of 16 teams, comprising of the 8 losers from Round 2 plus the eight winners from the backdoor system. So, it is 8 games and 8 of the winners progress to Round 4.
