Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (commonly abbreviated MGS3) is a stealth-based game directed by Hideo Kojima and developed by Konami for the PlayStation 2. It is the fifth game in the Metal Gear series, and is due for release in November 2004.
Leaked Document
In March 2004, users of IGN's message board for Metal Gear Solid discovered a list of the game's characters on Showfax.com, a website that provides sides (information about roles) for actors and voice actors.
Soon, the actual sides became available for purchase. These listed every single major character in the game, along with detailed biographes and actual lines of the game's dialogue. Information on the sides became widely circulated on the Internet and later became known to fans as the "leaked document."
Three main theories exist regarding the leaked document:
- It is a complete fabrication and not created by Konami. This was believed around the time the document surfaced. Many fans thought the information given in the document must have been phony because it was too outlandish for a Metal Gear game, and that Kojima, known for the measures he takes into maintaining complete security regarding his games, would have never allowed such a leak to occur. However, the fact that many things shown in various trailers and the game's official website match what is given in the document has proven that it is not fake.
- Kojima intentionally released the information. Along with the belief that Kojima wouldn't allow material to be leaked, this is partially due to the "paranoia" from which many seem to suffer, due to the secrets revealed in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. It is thought that Kojima is trying to mislead and deceive fans (which he claims to enjoy doing) with the information.
- The information was actually leaked and was beyond Kojima's control.
Villains of Snake Eater
The Pain- Controls Bees.
The Fear- Has incredibly flexible limbs. Compares himself to a "spider."
The End- The fictional "Greatest Sniper." He is 100 years old and can survive without food because of an algae in his stomach that provides food.
The Fury- Is a Russian astronaut who was horribly burned. He travels in a jetpack and space suit and uses a flamethrower.
The Sorrow- Is a ghost. In the trailer, he is seen crying blood.
Ocelot- Said to be Revolver Ocelot from past Metal Gear Solid installments. He handles revolvers exceptionally well.
Volgin- A Russian nationalist who appears to have electrical current running through his fists.
The Boss- A woman who is Snake's mentor and teacher. In the game trailers, she is seen defecting to the Russian side. She makes cryptic statements, such as, "Only one can inherit the title of the Boss."
Main Character Theories
The game is confirmed to take place in the 1960's during the Cold War era. Solid Snake was supposed to be cloned from super soldier Big Boss in the 70's which makes him too young to be the main character in this game. Big Boss, however, was supposedly an Army Ranger, sometimes known as a Snake Eater. Flames on internet forums have been posted regarding this topic, and GameFAQs user Drevius, A.K.A., Andre Wong of Plano, TX, suggests jokingly that the main character is really famous TV star Jamie Kennedy in disguise.
