Icelandic Sheepdogs
Hi Reinhardt!
I improved your russian article about "Icelandic Sheepdogs" because it was not good enough to name it as "article", so I had a choice - either delete it or improve it. I decided that it's better to improve it :) Indeed I'm not suach a dog-fancier, at least I have no dog at home, but when I was a child I had a German Shepherd, he was really smart dog.
In Russian Wikipedia there is a lack of articles about dogs, I hope it will be changed soon.
About Коикерхондье (Kooiker Dog) you may read at:
http://demo.e-dog.ru/dogs.phtml?dog=283&pos=24&abc=%CA
I know that you cannot read Russian but you can authomatically translate text using online services like http://babel.altavista.com/
If you need my assistance please write to me at my Russian or English talk pages.
Greetings, Maxim
Pictures of your dogs
- I looked around the website, and didn't see any that were better than the one nominated for featured picture status. Just look for more opportunities to take more pictures with a good camera, in good light of the entire dog, preferably in some sort of great pose, like in the nominated picture. It was just the grass in front of the dog that I found distracting. And, the higher resolution, the better. - Bevo 05:28, 25 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks Bewo! I moved your answer to my talks. Regards Gangleri 12:27, 2004 Sep 25 (UTC)
re:dog photos
I think you need to read the featured picture guidelines, basically a featured picture must be technically good and make a significant number of folks watching say "wow". Don't take it personally that your photo is rejected. Dunc_Harris|☺ 12:42, 25 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Most perfect magic squares (1)
answers to User talk:Robinh#Most-perfect magic square:
Halló Robin, I saw the article and want to say Halló! At [1] (http://www.geocities.com/~harveyh/most-perfect.htm) the name is David Brée not Bree. I worked also on these squares and read about the work of Dame Kathleen Ollerenshaw and David Brée later. I was contacting Harvey Heinz some weeks ago but could not find the work of Ollerenshaw and Brée. Do you know where to get this book? I stoped working at [2] (http://easy.go.is/gangleri/ferningar/) about four weeks ago. I generate only some straight forward patterns. Just take a look. Regards Gangleri 07:53, 2004 Sep 27 (UTC)
- Hi Gangleri
- thanks for these comments. I'll change Bree to Brée when I get a minute. The book is not available at Amazon, although there is a listing for it (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/090509106X/qid=1096283450/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/104-9972703-6880715?v=glance&s=books).
- I know your webpage quite well! I'm particularly interested in magic hypercubes. I am writing a suite of magic square tools in the R programming language; do you know R?

WikiMagic
answers to User talk:MacGyverMagic/WikiMagic/Gangleri:
I should've seen those entries from you ages ago. Thanks for contributing. Anyway, I haven't had time to read through the entire thing, but from a quick glance I think some of it could fall under Mathematical magic. I'll archive your work in a subpage of the page it was originally posted on, to keep the page itself clean from article type entries. The WikiMagic talk page is for discussion only.
Don't let me moving your work, stop you from editing it :) Mgm|(talk) 19:26, Sep 30, 2004 (UTC)
I've finished the move. Your contributions to WikiMagic can now be found at User talk:MacGyverMagic/WikiMagic/Gangleri. Mgm|(talk) 19:38, Sep 30, 2004 (UTC)

Featured picture candidates resolution and size
answers to User talk:Angela now User talk:Gangleri/archive 01#Featured picture candidates resolution and size:
Hi. I don't think I really am the best person to ask since I don't really care about the resolution as long as the size is at least 300px width for picture of the day. In my opinion, the vast majority of images on Wikipedia are completely unsuitable for print, so objecting to candidates on that basis is not something I would do, although Eloquence and others have done so in the past. I expect as high a resolution as you can manage would be best, but I have no strong opinion on this and can only suggest you look at some of the other featured pictures and see what the standard is, but I expect it varies widely. Interlanguage categories
answers to User talk:Angela now User talk:Gangleri/archive 01#relatated to categories in different languages:
Hi, I think adding interlanguage links to categories is very useful and I see no reason not to do this. I realize there are difficulties in finding categories in other Wikipedias, and I don't know of any page that attempts to make this easier. However, it would be a very worthwhile project to create something like a page which aims to give translations of the words used for category across the languages, and also promote interlanguage collaboration. I guess this is what you've started at eo:Vikipediisto:Gangleri/farendaĵoj. Meta: would be the best place for a cross-project page where people could help with this. I think it could be maintained simply as a wiki page rather than a database, but perhaps I don't quite understand what you are intending to do?
The Multilingual speedy deletions page already gives translations for the delete tag, so perhaps something similar could be set up for other common tags.
Personally, I like the idea of using the same icon across projects to help people know what the template is, but I think you'd find it difficult to convince people across projects to use the same icon, or even to use an icon at all. See Template talk:Delete#Image poll for example.

Ligatures
answers to User talk:Io: and Norse saga:
Hi!
I am pleased to meet you. All the examples you mention on the page
http://bugzilla.wikipedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=660
should indeed be an oe-ligature. The two ligatures were pronounced differently in Old Norse, although they later merged in Icelandic. Oe-ligature was the result of an umlaut with ó as the original vowel, whereas ae-ligature was an umlaut of á. As for browsers displaying or not displaying characters correctly, I would advise you to go to
and download their latest stable version. It beats Internet Explorer by leaps and bounds.
I'm going to watch a tv-programme now, but I'll get back to you later.
All the best Io 22:03, 7 Oct 2004 (UTC)
As I am curious ...
answers to User talk:Io: and Norse saga:
... how did you come to develop an interest in Icelandic? If you need any pointers regarding that language, just post them on my talk page. I'm equally fluent in German and English so you can pick the language. (I envy you your knowledge of Russian, however. It's long been a goal of mine to learn one Slavic and one Baltic language, but you know how it is, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. :) Cheers Io 18:21, 8 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Sorry, I think you were unable to mail me because I obviously had disabled user mail on en:... I have enabled it by now. Conserning your question about IRC, I don't know very much about it, so I can only say that I use Mozilla firefox, and have installed the extension ChatZilla. After that, it should not be any problems to enter #sv.wikipedia == [irc://irc.freenode.net/sv.wikipedia #sv.wikipedia] through the link you entered. If you use Iexplorer or anything else, I don't know what program you need to install. \Mikez (sv:användare:Mike)
Hi there
answers to User talk:OlofE#It is early morning:
Hi there! First, there's precious little dating for early runestones. There are quite a few that are of the oldest varieties, my guess would be between 300-500 of them (though one could look at hard data instead of guessing, but I don't have it at hand). How many of those are still standing in their original position is just impossible to know but hardly more than a couple dozen. I'm pretty bad at Norwegian stones so I better not guess at the status of that stone.
"My page" - Heh, I'm not sure which page you're talking about here. Assuming it's not something outside wikipedia, I'll guess it's the futhark page, which I did indeed start, long, long ago - however, I cannot in any way claim any glory for what's on that page now. I don't think a single word remains of my writing:-) In fact, "futhark" was just a redirect to another page last I looked. So - I'm glad you enjoy it but don't thank me, talk to all the editors of the page (dozens of them, IIRC). The article has a discussion tab as well where you can discuss its contents with whatever authors are active on the article. Finally, pardon me for being slow in answering, I'm not very active on the English wikipedia nowadays (whatever time I have available to spend on wikipedia goes to the Swedish edition). M.İdrisi @ tt:Tatarstan näşriätläre
answers to tt:User talk:Al Beri#M..C4.B0drisi_.40_Tatarstan_n.C3.A4.C5.9Fri.C3.A4tl.C3.A4re:
- M.İdrisi mentioned at tt:Tatarstan näşriätläre in not the same person, Mansur İdrisi is Tatar.
- But tt:âl-İdrisi at tt:Finlândiä and de:Al-Idrisi is the same person.

Muhammad al-Idrisi (former Idrisi)
answers to User talk:Dbachmann#Arabic names and Talk:Muhammad al-Idrisi:
- I added my mustard as requested :P – my aim on WP is to add content, though, and a project to enforce consistent spelling is not something I am prepared to invest too much sweat in... tt can *not* be done in one day, and even if exact guidelines were in place, if they are too complicated, people will tend to ignore them. dab 21:48, 14 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hi there Gangleri. Here is Brian from the portuguese wikipedia. Concerning your first question, unfortunalety, i really dont know who could do it. About the second one, our wiki is too small yet, and if i understood correctly what you want, the only articles he wave about dogs, are Cão, and the links Boxer, Labrador and São Bernardo. Finally, i've just added right now the translation of thanks in portuguese (obrigado) to the wiktionary. Greetins from Sacavém, Portugal. Brian Boru 00:16, 20 Oct 2004 (UTC)
