The University of Ulster (UU) is a multi-site university located in Northern Ireland and is the largest university on the Island of Ireland. It has four campuses, the main one is Coleraine where the administrative headquarters are also located, with additional campuses in Belfast, Jordanstown, Magee.

The university was created in 1984 by the merger of the New University of Ulster (1968) and Ulster Polytechnic (1971). This was the first, and to date only, trans-binary merger in UK higher education whereby what is now called a Glass Plate University merged with what would now be a Post 92 University; the merger occurred primarily because the university struggled to attract students whilst the polytechnic was successful.
