The Volvocales are an order of flagellated or pseudociliate, unicellular or multicellular (colonial) green algae. Colony sizes vary from Gonium (4, 8 or 32 cells) through Eudorina (16-32 cells) to Volvox (500 or more cells). The flagella in a colony are coordinated. Many types are able to swim towards light (phototaxis). Reproduction may be sexual or asexual.
