Wikipedia:AMA Requests for Assistance
style="background:#dfffdf"|
NOTE: Current average wait time is now long as all available Advocates are currently on cases, so if you post a request please be patient. Any Advocates who are capable of taking cases, please leave Steve a note.
We only have so many Advocates available to take cases at the moment, so please bear with us.
If you would like to see which Advocates are currently accepting new cases or would like to make a request directly to an advocate, please visit AMA Advocates accepting inquiries.
Requesting advocacy
Members' Advocates offer their assistance in representing you or assisting the presentation of your side of an existing dispute. If you are looking for Mediation or Arbitration, you should start that process in the appropriate manner, and then contact the AMA if you want someone to help represent your side. Members' advocates will also assist in other personal conflicts between users prior to mediation or arbitration stages.
Make sure you read and understand the Members' Advocacy Information and FAQ pages before making a request for advocacy.
To make a request, please follow these three steps as closely as possible:
Step 1
- Click the Request advocacy link.
Step 2
- Add the following to the top of the editing pane, filling in the bold fields appropriately:
{{subst:AMA-request | YOUR username | wikilinks to the pages in question | a brief 2-3 sentence description}} -- ~~~~
- For example:
{{subst:AMA-request | The_Thadman | [[Dispute]] and [[Wikipedia:Dispute resolution]] | This is an example description.}} -- ~~~~
- And save your work.
- (Please do not simply cut and paste from another case. The template listed above creates important links for us to better serve you.)
Step 3
- Go to your talk page and create a new section named "AMA request" (this is case sensititive). In this section, provide a detailed explaination of why you are requesting advocacy.
- AMA members will respond to your requests after reviewing your statements.
Remaining anonymous
If you would like to remain anonymous, you do not have to identify yourself (with your Wikipedia user name) or the subject of the dispute (although explaining the nature of the problem may help us find a suitable advocate). In this case, simply fill in "Anonymous" for each of the fields and leave off the "-- ~~~~" at the end. However, at a minimum you will need to provide some contact information (in your brief description) so that the advocate can get in touch with you.
Directly contacting an Advocate
You can also contact individual advocates directly. Some advocates have posted personal statements on a separate page for member statements, which may help you in selecting which advocate to work with. Some advocates have also announced their availability at AMA Advocates accepting inquiries.
Requests for assistance
Note: This is not a place to request Mediation or Arbitration. This is also not a place to engage in debate or argument with another party. The below requests are transcluded from the Requests subpage. To add a new request you must follow the three steps listed at the top of this page. The following is a list of what each status means:

- Before making a request for Advocacy you must read and understand the Members' Advocacy Information and FAQ pages so that you understand what the AMA is all about.
- If you are merely looking to get a fellow editor banned rather than take the effort to resolve your dispute, the AMA does not leverage Administrator privileges and thus cannot help you.
With all of this in mind, to make a request please follow these steps as closely as possible:
Step 1
If you've already made an AMA request in the past, add the number of your current request after USERNAME.
Step 2
