Introduction: The Rai Foundation is an educational initiative started in the late 1990s by one of India's prominent industrialists, Mr Vinay Rai. RF endeavours to improve the quality of education, both at the school and college levels in India.

RU A private foundation, it was one of the first in India to start its own university - The Rai University. RU started with an impressive bang, with campuses in more than 20 cities, with hundreds of courses offered, divided into more than a score of colleges, each with its own presence in every campus.

Troubles Though starting out showing a lot of promise in 2003, the RU initiative soon ran into legal troubles when the Supreme Court of India struck down the State act that had enabled the founding of RU, along with more than a 100 other universities. The universities affected were denotified, and many shut shop, leaving thousands of students in the lurch, with their fee already fully (or partly) paid, the Rai Foundation refused to just wash its hands off the matter, and instead sought an alternative to protect the future of the thousands of its students by any means necessary.

Current Situation: Mired in a host of controversies and rumours, withstanding dwindling trust in athorities by students, financial crunches brought on by drastic retrenchment of staff, consolidation of its numerous academic centers into fewer yet stronger campuses, various legal actions to see justice done, and many other such fatiguing factors, RF continues to fight for its students' rights.

Having opened a campus in the state of Rajasthan, it currently plans to establish a new University there, under the aegis of the Rajasthan educational department.

Current plans also include getting affilation for its students all over the country from the various respective state universities. The situation looks hopeful.
