Self-portrait of bumm13

This is Bumm13's user page. I am putting this page up because Fennec made me. Ok, not really. :-) I started editing at Wikipedia on August 28, 2002 with a new article about the Apple Lisa. This makes me a rough equivalent to Hephaestos. Since then, I have written around 294 new articles (anonymously), making me the disputed "King of IP Contributors". My IPs have been welcomed to Wikipedia many times, click on this link to see some examples.

I hang out on #wikipedia IRC channel frequently. If you want to talk to me, that's where you'll find me.

I am not a sysop! I cannot help you. Sorry. :-)

Please do not put barn stars or any other religious symbolism here. Otherwise, I will feed them to my cat.

I am currently fascinated by alphabets and characters from non-Latin alphabet languages, as in Unicode/UTF-8. Just my current "fetish" of the moment.

Dot-maps

Yes, I make U.S. state city dot-maps. :D

I have finished the states of Washington, Nevada, and Delaware. Wisconsin and Oregon are current works in progress. Wisconsin is evil.

  • Wisconsin: 44/72 counties completed
  • Oregon: 6/36 counties completed

In case anyone out there in Wikipedialand cares, this graphic at the right of the page shows my progress on Wisconsin's city dot-maps. It is taking much longer to do WI than I originally anticipated. For more information on WP dot-maps, see User:Seth_Ilys.

The remainder of this user page is geek diatribe. You've been warned!

I cannot talk about myself (Bumm13) without mentioning computers. Of course, without computers, I wouldn't know about Wikipedia. I remember using a Wyse terminal at my local library around 1985. My first computer usage was on an Apple //e with a single Disk ][ 5.25-inch floppy drive at school. Our family purchased a Leading Edge Model D 8088 PC running DOS in 1988. So right there, the "computer trinity": Unix, Apple, and (shudder) commodity PC.

Since then, I have been fascinated with computers and how they work, etc. Unfortunately, my one shortcoming is that I cannot program. Anything! So I edit this online encyclopedia instead. Anyway, I discovered the World Wide Web (Internet) in 1996 and later Usenet, and now IRC. I guess I'm a writer, but oh well. Enjoy Wikipedia!
