Zebra is the name given to three species in the Equidae (horse) family: Equus zebra the mountain zebra, Equus burchelli the plains zebra or "dauw", and Grevy's zebra, Equus grevyi. All three species are native to central and southern Africa.

The body of the mountain zebra is white with sharply contrasting black bands, and it has a tuft of black hair at the tip of its tail. The plains zebra is yellowish-white with irregular blackish bands, and has a long flowing white tail. Grevy's zebra has narrow black-and-white stripes, a prominent mane, and a head shaped somewhat like that of a mule.

Zebra is a medical term for an obscure and unlikely diagnosis from ordinary symptoms. It refers to a quote by (anyone know?): "When you hear hoof-beats, think horses, not zebras". This principle is related to Occam's razor.

Zebra is a Heavy Metal group who formed in 1977 and calls it quits in 1987.
