Barlach.jpg
Hi, and welcome to Wikipedia. About my image Barlach Magdeburger Ehrenmal on Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates: I went back to my original version and doctored around with the gimp. The original version is in focus, and only got out of focus while removing the grain in the image. In the current version I have despecled only the background, and the sculpture itself is still sharp. Please have a look and let me know if this is this better now? (Press CTRL - Reload if necessary) Thanks. -- Chris 73 Talk 14:56, Oct 13, 2004 (UTC)
- Hello, Chris, thanks for the message, I'll withdraw my opposition. Best wishes,--Wpopp 09:15, 15 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- I am glad that you like the new image better. Thanks for changing your vote. Also, again Willkommen to Wikipedia. I am not sure how familiar you are, so here are two links: Wikipedia:Welcome, newcomers and Wikipedia:How to edit a page. Also, feel free to ask me anytime if you have a question (German optional, Landsmann). Happy editing -- Chris 73 Talk 07:07, Oct 18, 2004 (UTC)
- Na, prima, zwei Deutsche treffen sich auf der englischen Wikiseite. Danke für das Hilfsangebot, ich werde sicher bald darauf zurückkommen (will Bilder zu Artikeln hochladen und weiß noch nicht, wie). --Wpopp 13:38, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Uploading images: Prepare an image, descriptive filename, good resultion (larger is better, can easily be resized for articles), not too large filesize, preferred in jpg, gif or png format. On the menu on the left you see "Upload file". This gets you to the upload dialog, select the file, add a comment, and check the I affirm that the copyright holder. You'll get a small confirmation request if the filename has to be changed (e.g. "Barlach Magdeburger Ehrenmal.jpg" to "Barlach_Magdeburger_Ehrenmal.jpg") or if you overwrite an older file (which is not deleted but stored in the history). You'll get a link to the image site after a sucessful upload (e.g. Image:Barlach Magdeburger Ehrenmal.jpg). Add a proper description and Wikipedia:Image copyright tags, and you can use the image in pages (Wikipedia:Picture tutorial). For more info see the articles in Category:Image help. Hope this helps. BTW, my feeling is that there are quite a lot of germans here at the english wikipedia. Happy editing -- Chris 73 Talk 14:42, Oct 18, 2004 (UTC)
- OK, thanks for the very useful hints. Could you have a look at the first pic I put on a page (de:Kleiner Wasserfrosch)? I'm quite happy with the result on the page, but the picture is too big (dimensions done with Adobe PhotoDeluxe somehow don't come out as intended). -- Wpopp 16:05, 18 Oct 2004 (UTC) Talk
- The image looks good to me. The large source image is great, and the smaller image on the article also matches.(someone actualy made it a bit bigger, from 210 to 293 pixel). I usually try to to upload large resoltion images with at least 1024 pixel in the larger direction, so your upload de:Bild:Rana lessonae (Salagon) 20040531.jpg is cool. The only difference I would have done is a slightly higher compression ratio, the current image is 1 Mb, but that is personal preference. -- Chris 73 Talk 22:30, Oct 18, 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks again, Chris, I am reassured. The compression ratio would be the option "Picture Quality" in Adobe, I guess. In fact, I chose maximum quality, but maybe that's not necessary. Do you know a good, cheap (?) photo editing software that is more user friendly and versatile? --Wpopp 10:04, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- I use the following:
- IrfanView for quick editing (Brightness, contrast,...) and viewing, saving my files usually with a JPG compression ratio of 85%, available for Windows
- The GIMP for high level editing, almost the same functionality as adobe photoshop, for Windows and linux
- Openoffice.org "Draw" for creating and editing vector graphics, for Windows and linux
- All the programs are 100% free and available for download. (irfan view may be non-commercial only, but I am not sure). Have fun -- Chris 73 Talk 11:15, Oct 19, 2004 (UTC)
- Ok, Chris, I downloaded IrfanView for a start and will try to get startet. Best, --Wpopp 15:38, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

You listed this on WP:LO, but I don't see a cleanup banner in the page history, so I'm removing it. Let me know if this is a problem. JesseW 22:42, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)
State house image
NIce addition to the Boston article! [[User:Dpbsmith|Dpbsmith (talk)]] 19:39, 22 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Agreed! I copied it to Massachusetts, where it also seems appropriate, since it's the state house. It seems that capital cities get all the best photos, while the broader regions have articles that are almost entirely text, and thus visually dull. I've tried to add lots of my own photos to prefectures of Japan, including Hokkaido, Aomori Prefecture, Akita Prefecture, Kyoto Prefecture, Nagasaki Prefecture, Okinawa Prefecture. Chris, I'll bet you could add to the list! Fg2 06:28, Oct 23, 2004 (UTC)
Beautiful images. See how swiftly I grabbed your detail of the base of a column for Ionic order! Do you have any more architectural details? They're badly needed at Wikipedia. --Wetman 10:02, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks. Working on it right now. I am currently going through Stock.xchng, adding photos in a somewhat random order, e.g. a Topless Goddess followed by a cockroach closeup followed by a Ionoc base, and others. I'll see if i can get the doric and corinthic images, too. -- Chris 73 Talk 10:10, Oct 23, 2004 (UTC)
U.S. state capital pages
You wrote, "Hi. I am working on your capital image requests. All cities now have a location map. I also took the liberty of changing the request on Wikipedia:Requested pictures from a table into a regular list. Happy editing -- Chris 73 Talk 08:29, Oct 23, 2004 (UTC)"
- Hey Chris 73. Thanks a ton for helping out with the U.S. state capital pages. Everything looks great. - Redjar 04:17, 24 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Image:Tugra Mahmuds II.gif
The picture was originally part of the german article Tughra where the missing strokes are explained:
- Die Schweife an den Hasten hatten ursprünglich nur Zierfunktion und können später, je nach Name, auch als Buchstabe alif verwendet werden, wie im Beispiel ganz rechts. Auch der linke Teil des «Fußes» wird mit Verzierungen gefüllt, wenn der Zeichenbestand des jeweiligen Sultansnamens nicht ausreicht. Aus diesem Grund bleiben in der Animation einige Linien grau. --217.185.10.205 08:40, 26 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Hallo, since you gently offered advice, can I ask you what happened with the photo I uploaded on German Wikipedia? I just wanted to use a cut-out, but when you look at it now, it's warped like in a concave mirror. And, troubling too, the pic shown in the article and the one shown when you click on it are not the same. Thanks for the trouble --Wpopp 20:37, 28 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- That is a known problem with internet browsers. You uploaded one image, and the browser put this one in the cache. After you uploaded another image (e.g. different format), the browser used the old cached image, and stretched it to the new dimensions, hence the warped appearance. To fix this, simply clear your browser cache by pressing "CTRL" & click Reload at the same time for Internet explorer, or just click reload on firefox. This clears the cache and updates the image. Glad I could help. -- Chris 73 Talk 23:28, Oct 28, 2004 (UTC)
- Thank you, that's perfect! --Wpopp 08:57, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Thanks
Thanks for moving my request for pix, full thanks on my talk -- Leonard G. 03:24, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Hi. Could you add the source and a copyright tab to Image:Ianbotham.jpg? -- Chris 73 Talk 02:47, Oct 31, 2004 (UTC)
- Hi Chris... the Ian Botham image has been on my on my computer a while. The original site can't be found, so should be ok to use?... address is http://www.penza.com.ru/rubtsov/calendar/1124.htm BladeSteve
Chris.. as I said it's ages since I downloaded the image, so don't know about the copyright or what sort of site it was on...still on Google but page not found as I said before. Should it be removed or just leave it as it looks neat on the page.....BladeSteve
