Catherine of Portugal (14361463, Portuguese: Catarina, pron. IPA: /kɐ.tɐ.'ɾi.nɐ/) was a Portuguese Princess, daughter of King Edward of Portugal and his wife Leonor of Aragon. Catherine was born in Lisbon on November 26 1436. She was promised to marry Charles IV of Navarre but he died and Catherine turned to a religious life in the Convent of Saint Claire. She was a cultivated princess author of many books regarding morality and religion. She died on June 17 1463 and is buried in Lisbon at the Saint Elói Church.
