Duarte, Duke of Guimarães

Edward of Portugal (Portuguese language: Duarte, pron. IPA /du.'aɾ.tɨ/) - (Lisbon, October 7 1515-Lisbon, September 20 1540).

4th Duke of Guimarães and Prince of Portugal, was son of King Manuel I of Portugal and his wife Maria of Aragon.

In 1537 he married Isabel of Braganza, daughter of James, 4th Duke of Braganza, who was dowried as the Duchess of Guimaraes in her own right.

This marriage produced three children:

He is buried in the Monastery of Jerónimos in Lisbon.
