Sawada (a.k.a. Captain Sawada) is a character from the 1994 Street Fighter movie and Capcom's fighting game Street Fighter: The Movie. He is best known for replacing Fei Long in the aforementioned movie and game.

Sawada is a soldier with the A.N. (Allied Nations) who served with Guile a few times prior to battling against General Bison in Shadoloo. His fighting style is unorthodox, and some of his moves are very humorous. In one of his special moves, Gokusatsu-Jibakujin, Sawada uses his katana blade by stabbing himself making a crescent shaped blood (sometimes flaming blood) barrier. Those who have seen this move have jokingly referred to it as a hara-kiri. His super move, Kamikaze Banzai, involves Sawada, standing straight up, putting his hands in the air and sliding into his opponent. While it does a respectable amount of damage and Sawada is invulnerable to projectiles during the move, it is comical to look at. However, this only applies to the console versions of the game: he doesn't have any such moves in the arcade version.

Adaptations in other media

  • In the US Street Fighter cartoon, Sawada took over Guile's position in the A.N. when Guile started working for Street Fighter (a group consisting of Ryu, Ken, Blanka and others). While in the movie he wore a blue T-shirt, blue camouflage pants and army boots, this version wears a tan uniform, similar to Rolento's. He also uses his katana to fire blade-shaped projectiles instead of the Gokusatsu-Jibakujin.

Trivia

  • Sawada was portrayed by actor Kenya Sawada.
