Drilling engineering is a subset of petroleum engineer, involved in the drilling of production and injection wells. Drilling engineers are often degreed petroleum engineers, although he or she may have experience as a field hand or as another disciplined engineer (i.e., mechanical engineer) and subsequently trained by an oil and gas company.
