Ionel Ganea
Ioan Viorel Ganea, often shortened to Vio Ganea (born 10 August 1973) is a Romanian football striker with Dinamo Bucharest.
He was born in Făgăraş and debuted in Divizia A with FC Braşov in 1994. He wore the jersey number 9 in English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, but was released after the 2005/06 season[1].
Ganea made his debut for the Romanian national team in 1999 against Estonia, scoring 2 goals. He represented his country at Euro 2000, but has not been capped since 2004. He currently has 43 caps and 18 goals.
Controversy
While playing for Romania in April 2004 he gave young Celtic F.C. defender John Kennedy a crunching tackle that has ruled out the youngster for over two years and was almost hit with a lawsuit against him for the tackle.[2]
In April 2006 he was involved in even more controversy by blasting Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Glenn Hoddle. [3]
"He's the most difficult coach I have worked with in my entire career. I don't even know if I can name two or three players who are satisfied with Hoddle."
"He runs an extremely stressful and demanding training programme, and whenever we are under pressure he is the only one making it worse by pressurising us even more".
Ganea said "He has no idea how to win over players and I just can't forget the fact that the Polish striker Tomasz Frankowski, who is my age, was transferred for £1.4M and has not scored, while I have scored five goals in 12 matches".
