Ø is a letter used in Norwegian and Danish. The lower case form is ø.

The origin of the letter form is originally a ligature for the diphthong OE that has become a letter in itself. In German and Swedish, the letter Ö with a diaeresis is the equivalent. Etymologically, Ø derives from O with an umlaut.

The letter Ø is also used in mathematics as a symbol for the empty set. Modern typesetting software used by mathematicians (such as TeX) renders it as follows:
